How to give up coffee in 73 easy steps

by Ivan on May 4, 2009

One of my wishes when I moved to China was to kick the caffeine habit and stop drinking coffee. It’s not as easy as you think and to paraphrase Mark Twain when asked how he quit smoking, “it’s so easy, I’ve done it a hundred times.”

One of the attractions here in Shanghai is the choices you have if you want an alternative to coffee. Back in Ireland, we were limited to a fairly limited number of choices and ended up drinking peppermint tea of jasmine. Pretty bland stuff, imho, and not the kind of thing to get you started at 6am.

Some of the choices at our local supermarket are interesting. There is also a local shop that specialises in Soya bean milk. This is my fave by far. You have to try it.

It’s not the watered down stuff I used to get in Dublin, but really tasty. The soy bean are pulverized and then diluted into a nice drink. On cold days it’s a real treat. Not quite there with coffee but catching up.

By the way, when you print out the doc, do the crop marks appear? nnIf not, then the crop marks are related to how Word is setup on your PC.nnYou can turn off the settings under (I think) Tools, Options. I’m at the airport otherwise I’d look. nn
