Filler text looks like real text, but is usually random or otherwise generated. It can be used generate text for testing or laying out pages. The process of using filler text is sometimes called Greeking, or largely Latin, as in Lorem ipsum. To create filler text:
[ad#co-1]
Microsoft Word 2003
1. Type =rand(x,y), where x and y are integers
2. Press Enter at the end of the sentence.
This replaces the original text with the phrase repeatedly for x paragraphs and y sentences per paragraph.
Tip: In Microsoft Word 2007, this is changed to =rand.old(x,y).
[ad#co-1]
Greeking is the automatic rendering of text characters as symbols or lines in the layout preview function of word processing documents, either to speed up screen display or because the monitor’s graphics display capabilities are insufficient for rendering extremely small texts.
