Technical Writer – Sunnyvale, CA

MDS Analytical Technologies is looking for a senior technical writer to work closely with its product development group in Sunnyvale, CA.

MDS Analytical Technologies develops bioanalytical measurement systems that accelerate and improve drug discovery and other life-sciences research. Its instrument systems are based on our advanced core technologies, which integrate expertise in engineering, molecular and cell biology, and chemistry. We are known as a world leader for developing innovative, first-to-market products that help improve the quality of life around the world.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare style guides, to create customer-facing documents including installation guides, user guides, training materials, and other documentation.

• Review documents produced by other members of the Information Development team (and other departments), and provide appropriate feedback.
• Act as a team lead for the Sunnyvale documentation group and integrate with Information Development teams in other locations.
• Implement, refine, and continually improve documentation-related policies, processes, and practices as needed.
• Provide teaching and training to ensure that processes are understood and can be performed as required.

Requirements:

• 6 years’ experience as a technical writer for hardware and software products. Experience with life-science products highly preferred.
• A.S. degree or certificate in Technical Writing, English, or a related discipline. B.S. degree in a life-science discipline highly preferred.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills with a strong design sense. Must be able to bring solid attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills; must be comfortable as a project leader and client liaison.
• 2 years’ project planning experience, including experience creating documentation plans and evaluating, prioritizing, and implementing projects.
• 5 years’ experience with standard authoring tools such as FrameMaker. Experience with content management systems, such as Author-it, highly preferred.
• HTML, JavaScript, XML, Flash, and CSS is an asset.
