South Korean Online Banking Increases

The popularity of Online Banking is rising in South Korea, according to a press release from the Bank of Korea.

Key Facts

1.  During April – June 2009, a daily average of 26.9 million fund transfers, balance inquiries and loan applications were performed online.  1.9% increase compared to Q1.

2. Total amount of internet banking transactions in Q2 2009 were up to USD 22.78 billion. 5.2 percent rise compared to Q1 2009.

3. As of June 2009, 17 South Korean banks, Korea Post and HSBC Holdings provided online banking services to 55.5 million users.

Online banking transactions represented 34.6% of all electronic transactions carried out in Q2 2009.
