You may have heard on TechCrunch breaking news that PayPal will open its payments platform to third-party developers.

Take a look at the PayPal Blog entry Osama Bedier (VP of platform and emerging technology) posted earlier today.

It talks about our limited-seating preview event on July 23rd where you can get more details on the APIs, as well as our developer’s conference in November.

PayPal reckon that this is “game changing stuff, and we want you to be part of it.

The driver behind this is related to Amazon’s recent entry into the payments market and also fears that eBay is not providing the income-streams that PayPal had expected.

Their intention is to be “providing a global payments platform will open up countless opportunities for developers to innovate and create new revenue streams.
