In this interview with Joia Shillingford at FT.com, Mr Stanford-Clark gives an insight into how the world will work in 2012 and beyond.

1. How will IT change?

Everyone will wear glasses that give you a computer overlay. The computer will process faces of passers-by and flash if you have met them before.

2. What will business IT look like in 2012?

It will act on alerts. A business will get an alert when a product is running out.

3. How will individuals use IT in 2012?

We’ll see ambient technology such as bus ornaments that turn green when the next bus is two minutes away.

4. What about the public sector in 2020?

My son says you should be able to go to casualty, register, then go home and get a text when the doctor’s ready.

5. How will IT be used by individuals in 2020?

We may have to wait 30 seconds more at the traffic lights but we’ll get a completely clear run, with green lights all the way.

6. What will happen in 2050 and beyond?

If you want a pizza, you will tap a number into a machine, pour in some particles and press a button. When you’ve eaten, you’ll be able to pour in more particles and make yourself a pair of trainers.

These are snippets of the interview.
